Interim market visits program


The South Australian Government recently supported the state’s businesses exhibiting at Foodex Japan 2019. 

Foodex Japan is Asia’s largest exhibition dedicated to food and drink across Japan and globally. During the four days, over 80,000 buyers from food service, distribution, and trading companies attended the exhibition. 

His Excellency, the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, Governor of South Australia and the Honourable David Ridgway, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, both attended Foodex, meeting and supporting South Australian companies exhibiting under Food SA and AUSVEG SA. They also had the opportunity to network with a wide range of buyers, distributors, exporters and importers from over 80 countries.

Exhibition: Hannover Messe
Overview: Hannover Messe is the largest industrial fair in the world focusing on driving digital transformation of manufacturing and associated industries. With the lead theme "Integrated Industry - Industrial Intelligence”, the fair brings together Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence. This theme underlines the growing importance of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the production and energy industries, including such areas as energy efficiency and use,  autonomous production processes as well as challenges in production interfaces, protocols and security. 

The Department for Trade, Tourism and Investment is hosting an exhibition space where South Australia’s most innovative advanced manufacturers are invited to promote their products and technologies to over 220,000 visitors to the fair. 

Opportunity to participate in seminars over the 5 days of the fair and an additional Industry 4.0 boot camp in collaboration with Austrade will be made available prior to Hannover Messe.
Who should participate? Participation is subject to availability and the below criteria;

Companies must be active in one of the following: 

  • Advanced manufacturing and with a strong interest in Industry 4.0 technologies & machine learning
  • Process automation especially when focusing on Digital Threads & Digital Twins
  • Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality applications
  • Predictive Maintenance
  • Innovative and/or new production technologies
  • Manufacturing or production outsourcing solutions

The department hosted 18 food industry partners from Malaysia, Hong Kong SAR and China to promote South Australia’s premium food and beverage export products, from 6 to 9 April, coinciding with Tasting Australia.

The delegates were invited to gain an in-depth understanding of South Australia’s premium food offerings and support trade promotional activities over the coming years to grow South Australian product brands and presence in their respective markets.

A joint initiative of DTTI and Food South Australia (Food SA), delegates comprised of senior decision-makers and influencers from retailers, restaurant, hotels and food service sectors. The key products featured in the program included seafood, dairy, meat, packaged foods and beverages (non-wine). 

Delegates visited the Eyre Peninsula to learn and taste premium and sustainable seafood offerings including oysters, Southern Bluefin Tuna, abalone, and mussels and also attended the South Australian Food and Wine Producers Trade Showcase which featured 24 established and emerging South Australian food exporters showcasing their products directly with international buyers.

As part of the Tasting Australia event, we hosted eight delegates from the USA, China, Hong Kong and Malaysia from 9 to14 April 2019 as part of the Tasting Australia Wine inbound mission.

The delegates were senior decision-makers and influencers from South Australia’s key wine export destinations invited to South Australia to gain an in-depth understanding of the state’s premium wine offerings and to support trade promotional activities over the coming years to grow our brand and presence overseas.

The delegates visited the Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale and Barossa wine regions and interacted with wine exporters from Langhorne Creek, Riverland, Kangaroo Island and the Limestone Coast through the South Australian Food and Wine Producers Trade Showcase.

The department worked with program partners including – Adelaide Hills Wine Region; Barossa Grape and Wine Association; Clare Valley Wine and Grape Association; McLaren Vale Grape and Wine Tourism Association; South Australian Wine Industry Association; Tasting Australia; and Wine Australia.
